Clash of Clans Town Hall 6 Farming Strategies: TH6 Farm Guide

Town Hall 6 is one of the worst farming levels (along with Town Hall 8) in Clash of Clans. First, your strength barely improves from TH5 to TH6, as you do not get an extra Army Camp. Your production is worse from TH5 to TH6, as your army size cap increases by 15 units (from another level of upgrades for preexisting Army Camps) but you do not get an extra Barracks. Finally, the primary units we use in this range (Barbarians) do not get an upgrade from the Laboratory.

Another bad thing about farming at TH6 is there is a huge disparity between the strength of TH6 bases and TH7 armies. There is perhaps no bigger gap in strength, as TH7 players get an extra army camp and an extra round of upgrades for their Barbarians and Archers. A cheap TH7 Barbarian and Archer army can take most of your resources (if not all, especially with a few Wall Breakers or a Healing Spell).

As a result, when comparing TH5 to TH6, at TH6, our Army barely gets stronger, our production time slows by a few minutes, our raids are a little tougher, and enemy TH7 players will attack us relentlessly with little recourse. The only bright spot of TH6 is that you get access to the healing spell, which you can use to take out particularly lucrative enemy bases. Stacks of Barbarians plus a healing spell can tank a Wizard Tower or Mortar while the Barbarians break down walls or grab resources.

Fortunately, maxing out your base at this level does not take much longer than at Town Hall 5. It takes about three weeks to max out your base with 3 builders (if your builders are always active) and research all level 4 Laboratory upgrades (you get a level 4 lab at TH6). The last week is spent upgrading your mines and elixir collectors, so not much farming is necessary at that point.

The video below demonstrates my recommended strategy for farming at this TH6:

TH6 Farming Strategy Discussion

If you watched the video above, you will have seen that I recommend simply making full armies of Barbarians with no other units. I use this army because it trains faster than any other army combination and as a result produces the most gold and elixir per hour spent playing CoC. This is the same strategy we used at Town Hall 5 as it is still the most effective for fast farming. As a side note, one reason we still use the mass Barbarian army is that it barely costs any Elixir, allowing you to work on your Research and upgrading your Army Camps sooner.

The major addition at this level is the introduction of the Healing Spell. You want to upgrade your Spell Factory when you get a chance (although it is a slow upgrade) as it gives you access to the healing spell, a powerful farming tool. With the healing spell, you can pile Barbarians onto a wall or a Wizard Tower and break it down with no problem

You only want to use a Healing Spell when you stand to gain a significant amount of resources for using it. Healing Spells cost 15,000 Elixir to start and increase in cost with upgrades, so you need to make sure you are getting a good return on that Elixir cost if you decide to use it. The video guide does a good job of showing when it is appropriate to use a healing spell.

TH6 Upgrade Order

Unlike at TH5, there are not many different upgrade responsibilities that you will have to shift your attention between. Instead, if you have three builders (which you should at this level), your priorities are to upgrade your Laboratory (so you can start research sooner), your Spell Factory, and then your Army Camps, in that order. Since all of those items cost a lot of elixir, be sure to dump your spare gold into walls. You can always start your new towers or other low-cost buildings while saving up elixir for your Army Camps in order to save builder time.

After that, you can work on building out your base at your own leisure in whatever order you prefer. Be sure to start your walls early and upgrade them often, as this is the first level where walls actually start getting a little expensive. You will want to max out your base fully before moving on to TH7. You should have plenty of time to max out your walls and research, as taking all your collectors and mines to level 10 takes about a week.

If you do not yet have three builders, make sure you push to 1250 trophies for the “Sweet Victory!” achievement. This achievement pays out 450 gems, easily allowing you to unlock a third builder (if you saved your gems, it should really get you close to a fourth builder!).

TH6 Farming Goals

At Town Hall 6, you should seek to get at least 150,000 combined resources per raid (75,000 gold and elixir, 100,000 elixir and 50,000 gold, 100,000 gold and 50,000 elixir, and so on). If you do not need any more gold or elixir due to being capped or already finishing upgrades, you should seek to get at least 100,000 of the resource you still need per raid.

Seek to stay in a trophy range of 600 to 1100 at Town Hall 6. I find that the upper end of the trophy range works best, particularly if you are skipping around for really lucrative bases.

Speaking of lucrative bases, if you are patient, you can speed your farming up by waiting for raids that have at least 250k combined resources with the resources being left in the collectors and mines. Typically, this will be TH6+ players with level 10+ collectors or mines that have not played for 2 days+. These players’ collectors and mines will fill up with resources which can then be stolen by you during a raid. The best part is that collectors tend to be on the outside of a base, so you can take them with your simple Barbarian army.

Initially, it will feel like your main task is to gather Elixir. You need about 3 million Elixir to upgrade your Army Camps, Spell Factory, and Laboratory. However, once these upgrades are finished, your need for Elixir is quite minimal. You will need more for Barracks and Research upgrades, but you should be swimming in it as our Barbarian Army is so cheap.

The real cost at TH6 will be maxing out your walls. Assuming you came into Town Hall 6 from Town Hall 5 with fully maxed walls, maxing out your walls will run over 10,000,000 gold. You will spend 7.5 million gold upgrading your 100 existing walls from level 5 to level 6, while it will cost you 3.025 million to build 25 new walls and then subsequently upgrade them to level 6. Upgrading your walls is worth it though, as it will make protecting your Dark Elixir at Town Hall 7 much easier. Do not skip out on this process.

    Hi David,

Yes, I hope to have TH7 and Th8 guides up within the next few weeks. Those are going to take a lot more effort, as TH7 really marks the beginning of different types of raiding… i.e. gold/elixir raids, dark elixir raids, trophy pushing, wars, and gold or dark elixir farming after regular elixir is capped. Those guides need to be a lot more detailed as a result.

Any word on the TH7 guide? Your TH6 guide has been great and really helped me improve my game. Really looking to your advice on TH7!

Town Hall Snipe with Archers and Barbarians. Only deploy 10-20 units per battle, and make sure your Barracks have units queued, and you will never have to rest. Takes about 2 hours, depending on where you start.

You have helped me so much at defending my village with your amazing plans and strategies. Keep up the amazing work and it look forward to seeing new and amazing plans as I evolve. Your plans are so much better, well-thought out, and actually more tested and reliable than let’s say something like clashofclanstools or clashofclansbuilder or actually even the wikia page. I won’t be surprised if you become the new Flammy.

Just a question. Why wouldn’t you employ funneling on your base design? I find that the only people that attacked me with your town hall 5 base designs were th6 people equipped with coring armies. They include giants/healer/wb and archers. Funneling would do a lot to giants/goblins and possibly prevent any storage raids.

    I’d appreciate your critique.

Other than that, I thank you for the farming strategy. With only barbarians, I am breaking into bases that have poorly defended mortar or exposed wizard towers. Even with proper staggering of attacking waves, I was able to hit bases with about 100k resources of each.

I’m a little confused – you inquire about my TH5 base design but you posted a picture of TH6. I don’t think players have enough walls to have a good funnel design until Th7+. Even at TH7, funneling is a bit weak, as players can just opt out of it with a few wall breakers.

With your design there, I would just use a wall breaker on the western wall in between the elixir storage and archer tower, then another set to get in to your mortar. That means I only have to break down 2 walls and i’m on top of both your mortars and your air defense.

The main purpose of the TH6 design is to offer some resistance to TH7 that just use mass barb/archer – and even then you’ll typically only save 2 of your 4 storage buildings. If you see my TH7 farm guide video you will see me easily wiping out a well designed high level TH6 with just barbarians and archers with no spells or even really particularly good placement.

Oh, I used your th5 base and I have only come accross th6 players running Giant Healer strategy to pry open your th5 base design. Once I came to th6, I expect more of the same Giant Healer Strategy. Hence, I inquire about your th6 design.

But good point, massive wall breakers always spells trouble for my current base design. Thanks for the criticism, it is greatly appreciated 🙂 I have not been attacked by th7’s yet.

Ah I see what you mean. Yeah, at TH5, if someone wants to use a bunch of Giants on you, there’s nothing you can really do to stop them. It’s too easy to get around funneling bases with just 2-4 Wall Breakers and the funnel design leaves you far more susceptible to Barbarian/Archer/Goblin armies. I’d rather be strong against those latter army types than use a funnel base, as I think at TH5/TH6 funneling gives more weakness (against Barb/Archer/Goblin) than it gives strength (against Giant/Healer). I start using a funnel at TH7 and above.

I was skeptical on the barbarian strategy as well with attacking bases with 150k combined resources but with only four attacks my storages are now almost full. Thank you for this guide, it has helped so much. For so long I’ve been looking for information about farming but they were all in general farming instead being based on Town Halls. Again, thank you. I’ll be coming back as soon I get TH7.

I used your strategy guide and it helped a lot! But now it is working too well and I was wondering if you have tips for what to do when you have no builders available and reached the gold and elixir cap. Then the mines and collectors just build up and then people can just steal from them.

    1. admin Post author

Honestly I would just let them steal from you. Try to time your builders better so that you always have at least one builder coming free every 24 hours so you have a place to dump gold (walls).

    Hey great Guide,

So I tried your barbarian strategy, but somehow I’m really having a hard time getting “barbarian friendly” bases to attack. Is it just me or…idk. I’m around 1100 trophies. Most bases I get are th7 and well defended th6 . When I use my barbarian army I usually get some of the loot but zero stars

    1. admin Post author

I’d try dropping to 1000 stars, and just being more patient. Sometimes I skip 50 times, sometimes I skip 3 times. It all evens out.

Hey , i never get the barbarian friendly bases you get. Usually my army then dies before really getting anything. I’m around 1100 trophies give or take.

    1. admin Post author

That might be a little high. Skip around until you find a base with full collectors, and consider dropping to 1k trophies. Don’t be afraid to skip 50 times (albeit that will only happen once in awhile).

sweet guide man. quickly found a really lucrative TH5 whose defense was the easiest thing ever to destroy. Took all ~140k gold and ~280k elixir easily, and sharing the replay with the clan im in, adding insult to injury. One question though: will there be a TH6 clan war guide? i would really want it on here.

Hi, I might put up one eventually, but I don’t have a TH6 account at the moment. It would have to be done with either a new account or without a video guide as a result. I’ll think about it once I finish up the TH8 and TH9 guides.

ok then. looks like i need to stick with giant/healer for wars now, but the defense, i’m not sure about. As you said in the base layout guide, there’s no good “trophy base” to use due to a lack of structures to protect cc , and the fact that TH6 players can’t really stand up to TH7+ players normally. Looks like i need to wait for that one.

PS: already saw your TH8 guides, and i wonder when TH9 guides are up (so i know when TH6 war guide comes up)

I don’t plan to put up a TH6 war base, but may eventually. As stated I haven’t seen a TH6 base that can’t be 100% a TH7 using just Archer and Barbs.

TH9 will likely be awhile. Farming maybe sooner than later, but it will take me awhile to level up my base enough to really experiment with base comps. I’m using Ringus at the moment and its fairly effective for farming, but not really a war base.

You sir, are a star in my books. I used your strategies and thought my clam mates, super effective. However I used a different but similar base design. I have just gotten to th7 and would really love your input on what order to acquire / upgrade 1st and what order.
    Thanks again.

Thanks! Upgrade your laboratory, build your new army camp, and focus on upgrading that Army camp. Use your third builder (if you still have the elixir) to get the dark elixir storage. after that you can slowly dump elixir into your remaining upgrades as you get it, using gold as it comes in on towers. If your gold really starts to overflow, upgrade walls.

Okay, thanks. But at what point do i start to acquire the new defensive structures like tesla and mortar? Also is there a transitioning layout I can use before I get all the structures. Since I levelled up I’ve been getting raided by alot of th8,9 and 10 and losing everytime. Dragons and barb king are a constant unit used.
    Thanks again.

Just build them as you get the gold. You are either too high in trophy range or just getting unlucky. I didn’t have a problem at all with that. TH9 and TH10 players do not typically attack TH7s, and even if they do, they can barely take any resources.

Thanks for this awesome site. I have been looking through so many different guides and youtubers like daddy and chief pat but they always talk about framing and use their heros. Since I have gotten my second tablet I have used your barb strategy and it has worked like a charm.

Couple of questions though. Do you know when you might have a full guide on TH 9? I am struggling right now at 1660 trophies to get 6Million elixir for my Giants to max them out. Am I too high in trophy count by chance? Mostly using Barbs (97) Archers (100) and Wall Breakers (8)

As a new TH9 myself, I have been able to save up pretty easily just using BAM or even Barb/Archer (cut back on Minions until drills are a higher level – want to upgrade heroes relatively quickly). I am sitting around 1500 trophies and having no issues. Typically use around 110 barbs and 90 Archers (two barracks each training them full time). You do need to skip a bit. I have been TH9 about 2 weeks and upgraded my lab, almost done Barbarian level 6 and should be able to start archer 6 or balloon 6 as soon as Barbarian finishes (depending how much I play). I think one of the keys is to just get a TH9 defense going as early as possible. Since I set up ringus, I have yet to be raided by anyone doing anything but sniping my TH. It is really easy to save elixir when using cheap units (just barb and archer) when you never get raided.

Definitely works. Just started my TH7 upgrade and almost everything is maxed apart elixir & gold collectors. The only times the base got completely destroyed were with giant (high-level) + healer attacks. The air defense is just “too middle” to hit the healers until the giants are on your face. But it is unavoidable.

Yeah if a TH7 really wants your resources, they are going to get them. 200 supply army is too hard to hold off at TH6.

Hi! Osiris I would like to know your opinion on when to upgrade to TH7 I have maxed out everything. My 3 builders are 1 day far from upgrading archer towers to level 7. The only thing that is not upgraded are my collectors, 4 are at level 10 and rest at level 9 should I upgrade all collectors to level 10 before starting my TH7 upgrade, oh and btw my 2 barracks are still at level 7 which I have decided to upgrade when the town hall upgrade starts. (I have a total of 4 builders) Thanks !!!!

Hey, I goofed before I read this and started th7 without maxing. I have almost all my defense towersmaxed and my walls are all at least level 5 with a decent amount at level 6. I have 5 days 8 hours left on my th upgrade. I don’t see any hope for maxing my army buildings (my barracks are levels 8, 6 and 3, and my camps are all level 5) but do you think that with hard core farming I could at least finish my walls in time?

Hehe. I actually did the same thing at TH9 before I knew what was going on. I started TH9 upgrade the second I hit TH8 (and was already way underleveled at TH8). Once I realized how hard it was to farm at TH8 with 3 star troops I did a little research, realized what I had done, and ended up cancelling.

Sure you could finish your walls. With 5 days and 8 hours left and most towers maxed you could likely come close to maxing out your base too. I wouldn’t sweat it.
